Although resilient, birch bark is also fragile. In embroidering on it with read thread, the colour of vibrancy and beauty in Ukrainian folklore, this series also explores the ephemeral nature of making. By drawing attention to the maker's hand in a very tactile and time consuming practice, embroidery itself becomes a symbol of personal labour, echoed by handwriting and cursive script.
